Vertebral Subluxation
A vertebral subluxation is the primary condition that chiropractors treat, it is also referred to as nerve interference.
A vertebral subluxation is a misalignment of the bones of the back, referred to as vertebrae, putting pressure on vital nerves which regulate and control all functions of the body. Think of it as the electrical system which gives life and runs your body. The brain sends messages to the cells of the body, telling them what they need to do in specific parts of the body. Messages travel along a complex system of nerves. They can run into interference, some of the messengers may take detours, others slow down or lose their way. All nerves from the brain travel down this row of interlocking bones called vertebrae, they branch off and pass through openings along the spine to get to their destination.
Occasionally, one or more of the vertebrae move out of alignment, we call this nerve interference, or a subluxation(s). Where misalignments occur the spinal opening narrows distorting the flow of any energy throughout the body. If you have nerve interference, your body can’t perform efficiently because it isn’t getting the right messages from the brain. If the nerve flow is disturbed because of the interference, chemical imbalance occurs and the body will function less efficiently. Its ability to fight off infection is diminished. If you experience any of the following symptoms: pain, dizziness, stiffness, weakness, coughing, diarrhea, profuse sweating, fever or stomach upset and vomiting, then it’s time to receive an adjustment. Often these conditions are the result of one’s body attempting to restore health. Correcting the nerve interference will help the body return to normal function.
Nerve interference or subluxations are caused by stress. Stress is typically in three forms: One is physical, two is chemical, and three is emotional. Physical stress is brought on by poor posture, repetitive motion, physical trauma (accidents, falls, and sports). Emotional stress deals with our day to day stresses such as job stress, relationships, financial stress or anything that triggers emotional upset and tension. Chemical stress is triggered by poor diet, drugs, caffeine beverages, exposure to toxic fumes, or any chemical exposure that the body reacts to.
